Lice and other infections are a challenge for the Faroese aquaculture industry. In order to prevent and reduce infection, it is necessary to know as much as possible about the biological characteristics and properties of
how they spread.
Firum is therefore constantly working to produce knowledge, so that, among other things, consideration can be given to how aquaculture facilities can be placed with the greatest advantage in relation to infection.
It is vital to understand how, and to what extent, lumpfish act as lice eaters in the cages and what needs they may have there.
The purpose is also to assess the extent to which, for example, blue mussels can be used to eat free-living lice in the sea, thereby helping to reduce the infection pressure.
